Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe students' mistakes in writing descriptive text, how the errors occur and why errors occur when writing. This study focuses on writing descriptive text for class IX students of Mts Ira Medan. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data from this study were 30 descriptive texts written by class IX students about a place. The steps of error analysis are making tests, collecting data, analyzing data, correcting, and making reports. From these results, it can be seen that the mistakes made by class Ix students of Mts Ira Medan are capitalization, omission words, punctuation, spelling and tenses. The way these errors occur are various processes that occur when students write, there are several types of errors, and these errors can occur due to carelessness, lack of knowledge about grammar in English and English vocabulary and there is the influence of students' first language or interference.
