Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the effect of using jigsaw technique on the students’ reading comprehension. The objective of this study is to find out whether any significant effect of using jigsaw technique on the students’ reading comprehension at the seventh grade of MTs. Cerdas Murni. The method of this research was quantitative research. This quantitative research used experimental design. The population of the study was the Seventh grade of MTs. Cerdas Murni which consisted of 96 students. Meanwhile, the sample of this research was consisted of 60 students. In this research, the researcher devided the sample into two groups, experimental and control group, each group consisted of 30 students. The experimental group taught by using jigsaw technique, while the control group taught without using jigsaw technique. The instrument of collecting data was tests (pre-test and post-test) and documentation. The data were analysed used normality test, homogenity test, T-test and Hypothesis test. At the end of the study, the researcher took conclusion as follow: jigsaw technique can give significant effect to the students’ reading comprehension. It can be seen from students’ result in post-test. The mean score of post-test in experimental group is 84,17, meanwhile the mean score of post-test of control group is 75,33. Besides that, the significant effect can be seen in the hypothesis test, which Tobserve is higher than Ttable (4,25 > 1,67) in the level of degree α is in significant 0,05. It means that there was significant effect of using jigsaw technique on the students’ reading comprehension at MTs. Cerdas Murni.
