Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine whether there was an effect of using picture series on the students' ability in writing descriptive text at VIII of MTsN 1 Aceh Tenggara in the academic year 2022/2023. The method used is quantitative, with the type of research that is pre-experimental research design. This research was conducted at of MTsN 1 Aceh Tenggara, Kutacane, Aceh Tenggara. The population and sample in this study were eighth graders in the first semester at the academy in 2022/2023 with consisted 24 students as a sample. The research data was obtained by giving a test about writing descriptive text to students. The research data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26 for Windows with Independent sample T-test. Based on the results of the data, it shows that there is a difference in writing ability between students who are taught by using picture series and those who are taught without treatment, where the results of the post-test score are higher by 60,29. It is also proven by the results of the t-test or tobserved being higher by 8.465 compared to ttable at a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) 23 of 1.674 (tobserved > ttable; 8.465 > 1.713). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using picture series on the students’ ability in writing descriptive texts at eighth of MTsN 1 Aceh Tenggara.
