Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using songs to increase students’ listening comprehension in the second grade of students at the MTs S Islamiyah Gunting Saga. The method in this research wasaquasi- experimental study. This study was conducted in two study classes, an experimental class and a control class. The sample for this study consists of 20 class VIII A students in the experimental group and 20 class VIII B students in the control group. In this study, the experimental class was taught using song as a medium in teaching listening, whereas the control class was always taught conventionally.The tools used in this study were pretests and posttests. The technique used to collect the data was quantitative by t-test. The results of this study showed that the use of media songs was effective in improving students' listening skills. The calculated results show that students in the experimental class scored higher than those in the control class. Based on statistical calculations with a 5% significance level, the observed value (to = 1.939) was shown to be higher than the t-table (tt = 1.686). This means that using songs to improve students' listening skills is effective.
