Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability to understand mathematical concepts of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 24 Medan. One solution to overcome this problem is to use the Contextual Teaching And Learning learning model approach. This research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental type of research (Quasi Experiment). The population was all students in class VIII of SMP Negeri 24 Medan, with a sample size of 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. The sampling technique used in this research was based on existing classes (purposive sampling). The data collection technique used in this research is a test that is used to determine students' ability to understand mathematical concepts by using a test in the form of a description. The research results obtained show that there is an influence of the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. This is proven by the results of hypothesis testing with the "t test" which shows that the value of t-count = 5.9930 and t-tabel = 2.00172, so it can be said that t-coun t > t-table then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So from these results it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Contextual Teaching And Learning learning model on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts at SMP Negeri 24 Medan
