Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of utilizing Hello English Application as an English-learning tool on students' speaking abilities. Quantitative and experimental research was vital to the conduct of this study, and data were acquired by administering pre- and post-tests. In addition, it was utilized to provide oral exams. The sample for this research comprised of 37 ninth-grade students from SMP Cerdas Murni. The sample was collected using a method of purposive sampling. The pre-test mean score for students' pronunciation was 5.09, while the post-test mean score was 7.7, representing an increase of 49.4%. Although the students' mean score on the pre-test for fluency was 5, the post-test score was 8, representing a 45.5% increase. The result of the t-test calculated from the indicators of the students' test speaking abilities (vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency) was greater than the t-table (22.5 > 3.04563). It indicates that there was a significant difference between the pre-treatment and post-treatment states. It demonstrated the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). It was determined that the Hello English program enhances pupils' speaking abilities.
