Abstract

This reseach aimed to find out the influence of short film media on short story writing skills of junior high school students. The population of this research was 196 students. The sample was the second grade of junior high school VIII-1 and VIII-2 at SMP Negeri 5 Panyabungan, Sumatera Utara. The methodology of this study is quantitative using experimental and control groups. A pre-test and a posttest were performed and the mean values for the experimental group were found to be 59.09 (pre-test) and 84.63 (post-test). In the control group it was 54.95 (pretest) and 77.77 (post-test). Test data showed normal and uniform values. For hypothesis testing, the researchers used a t-test and found t-count 2.782 > t-table 1.681. It accepted Ha and rejected Hi. Therefore, the effect of the short film method on students' writing ability is great.
