Abstract
This study was aimed to find out: 1) the factors affecting the students’ self- confidence in learning speaking English, 2) how the factors were realized in affecting the students’ self-confidence in learning speaking English?, 3) the reason of why the factors were realized in affecting the students’ self-confidence in learning speaking English in the way they were. This research was carried out by using qualitative research with phenomenological approach. The data were gathered through interviewing 5 informants and class observation. The data of this study were analysed quatitatively using data analysing model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2018). From the analysed data, it was revealed that there were five factors affecting the studsents’ self-confidence in learning speaking English. They were: 1) reading habit, 2) family role, teacher, and friend, 3) taking a community, 4) having ability at English, and 5) memorizing vocabulary and pronunciation.
