Abstract
Writing skill is one of the skills that to be mastered in English language but, most of the students, in this case, junior high school students, have difficulty in writing, especially writing descriptive texts. Many students think that writing descriptive text is very difficult. During the teaching and learning process, students are only passive and there is no response to the subject matter. Selecting an appropriate technique is needed in takling of this problem. This present study aimed to find out whether there is a significant effect of implementing Idol Picture Technique on students’ writing of descriptinve text at MTS Ali Imron Medan. Quantitative research design was used in this study. It involved 12 students of VIII A and 13 students of VIII B. Furthermore, VIII A was selected as experimental class and VIII B as control class by using total sampling. In collecting the data, essay test was used in this study. Then, test was distributed into pre-test and post test. In pre-test of experimental group (using Idol Picture technique) the mean is 46,42 and the post test 61,78 meanwhile in control group (using free writing technique) the mean of pre test is 54,64 and the mean of post test is 78,39. Therefore, it can be concluded that Idol Picture technique gives significant effect on students’ writing of descriptive text at MTS Ali Imron Medan.
