The population and sample were eight grade with consisted 48 students as a sample. This study used two classes, namely the experimental class using skimming and scanning techniques and the control class without treatment. The data was collected using pre-test and post-test. The instrument used in this study was multiple choice test. The data analysis used the Independent sample t-test by used IBM SPSS 19 for windows. The researcher findings indicated that skimming and scanning techniques was effective on the students’reading comprehension. The result of the post-test score in the experimental class are higher than the score in the control class (70.63>49.17) from t-test. The researcher found that, the value of t-test (7.167) was higher than t-table (1.678) at the level of significance 0,05 with degree of freedom (df)= 46 . It means that there was a significant different between students reading comprehension before and after using skimming and scanning techniques. It also said that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher concludes that, skimming and scanning techniques was effective on the students’ reading comprehension.
