Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of SWELL method in teaching writing procedure text which was observed and analyzed from students of eighth grade at MTs Babul Ulum Medan Labuhan. The method applied in this research was the experimental research design. The population of this study was the students at eighth grade of MTs Babul Ulum Medan Labuhan. The sample this study is grade (VIII-1) as the experimental class and (VIII-2) as the control class. Then , the researcher taught in the experimental class was taught by using SWELL method and control class taught by using lecturing method . After treatment, the researcher gave the post-test to both of classes. The result of post-test shows that . After the calculated by using SPSS V 22, t value (8.508) which is higher than t table in the degree significance 5% (1.669). Furthermore, the test of hypotheses showed that sig 2 tailed (p) was 0.000\0 while alpha (α) was 0.05 (0.000< 0.05) meaning that H0 (Null Hypothesis) was resjected and Hα(Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. It means that there was the effect of SWELL method on students’ achievement in writing procedure text.
