Abstract

This research aimed to find out the improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) technique, and also to investigate the significant effect of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) technique in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The population of this research was the second grade of MTs S Daarul Muhsinin, Janjimanahan Kawat, Labuhanbatu, where consists of four parallel classes, and the total of the students are 141 students. Two classes were selected to be the samples by using Cluster Random Sampling Technique, namely VIII-A and VIII-B. The first class (VIII-A) was experimental class that consists of 35 students were taught by using Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) technique, and the second class (VIII-B) was control class that consists of 35 students were taught by using conventional teaching method that used by English teacher as usual before. After analyzing the data, the writer found that the mean value of the experimental class is 80, while mean value of control class is 70. Then the data was analyzed by using T-test formula. The result showed that t_count is higher than t_(table,) where t_count=3,73 and t_table=2,0 at the significant level of α=0,05. It means that the alternative hypothesis which is proposed by the researcher that there was the significant effect of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) technique in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text is accepted. Moreover, it can be concluded that Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) technique is effective and more effective than conventional teaching method to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text.
