Abstract
DeepL Translator is one of the technologies available today. Technology has a positive impact on language learning. A lot of students make errors in their writing. DeepL Translator is translation engines that can be used to assist writing. Therefore, a researcher examine DeepL Translator's role in language learning, particularly in writing revision. Although there are several studies on machine translation in writing, few have investigated the impact of DeepL Translator on EFL students' writing by using DeepL Translator. A study conducted with second-semester English Education students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatera in 2024 involved 27 students as a sample, with four interviewed about their use of DeepL Translator in their revisions. Research design was mixed-method with an explanatory sequential strategy. The study involved analyzing writing tasks and interviews. Writing tasks were evaluated using SPSS 29 with a paired t-test at a 5% significance level, revealing a significant improvement in scores <0.001. Interviews, analyzed with Miles and Huberman's interactive approach, underscored the positive impact of using DeepL Translator. Students reported enhanced text quality, better error identification, and ease of use. Also, DeepL Translator encourages students writing strategies during revisions. Students double check and using previous knowledge during revising their tekxt. However, they also noted challenges, particularly with specialized terms and nuanced contexts. While DeepL improved their writing, careful review of its translations remains essential.
