Abstract
The research that has been carried out is entitled "Analysis of the Suitability of Biology Textbooks for High School Curriculum 2013 Revision for Class The books used by teachers prioritize the completeness of the material, while the books used by students display various aspects of visual representation. The visual representation aspect is an aspect in biology textbooks which contains images including photos, modeled images, schemes/processes, descriptive images, tables and concept maps. This research aims to measure which of the 3 books used is the best percentage of visual representation aspects. This research uses a quantitative content analysis method with content analysis and is validated by 2 validators, namely an expert lecturer and a biology teacher so that the results of the researcher's analysis are not subjective. Content analysis is research that takes the form of an in-depth discussion of written or printed content or information in mass media. The schools used as research objects are high school schools in Medan, namely Mamiai Al-Ittihadiyah High School, Al-Hidayah High School and Budi Agung High School. The data collection technique used was conducting observations on teachers and students regarding the importance of visual representation aspects in textbooks and document analysis in the three textbooks they use at school. The data analysis technique used is to collect all aspects of visual representation in textbooks which are then categorized into each aspect of visual representation in a table list which is then marked with a tick. The results of the research that has been carried out show that of the three books analyzed, books from the Triseries publisher have the highest percentage when compared to books from Grafindo and Baimu publishers. Presentation of visual representation aspects in the respiratory system material is very much needed to be a supporting factor in the explanation of the respiratory system material in order to achieve learning objectives. The results of this research are also useful for prospective educators to pay more attention to the textbooks that will be used for teaching in the classroom to reduce misconceptions in delivering the material.
