Abstract

This study discusses collaborative writing techniques and aims to examine the extent to which the effect collaborative writing techniques on students' abilities in writing descriptive text. This study used a quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental research design which includes one variable with two different learning methods. Sources used as references in research are literature from journals, books related to research subjects. This study used a sample of 56 students at Al-Ulum Integrated Islamic Junior High School. The instrument in this study used an essay test to assess students' abilities using collaborative writing techniques. At a significance of 0.05 the data were analyzed by testing the validity, reliability, normality and homogeneity. From the research results, it was obtained that the results of hypothesis testing on collaborative writing techniques obtained a significant value (0.00 <0.05) using the Independent sample T-test analysis using IBM SPSS 22 for windows. Therefore, collaborative writing techniques show that there is the effect on students' ability in writing descriptive texts. Keywords: Collaborative writing technique, Students’ ability, Effect
