Abstract

This study investigated students' difficulties in reading comprehension of narrative texts at MTs Al-Barakah Galang. The main objective of the research is to identify the factors that cause students' difficulties in understanding narrative texts and finding appropriate solutions. This study uses a qualitative naturalistic phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through classroom observations, interviews with English teachers, and related reading materials and assignments. The results of the study identified several main factors that contributed to students' reading comprehension difficulties, including limited vocabulary, lack of understanding of narrative structure, and lack of reading habits outside of the school environment. This study found that many students had difficulty finding detailed information in a paragraph and making conclusions as a whole paragraph. The results of this study are the main difficulties experienced by students in vocabulary knowledge. The researcher found that many students lost their vocabulary and felt bored quickly when looking at long texts. Based on these findings, recommendations are given to develop teaching strategies that focus on vocabulary enrichment, narrative structure training, and promotion of more active reading habits among students. Collaborative efforts between teachers, students, and parents were identified as key in overcoming this difficulty and increasing students' reading comprehension in narrative texts.
