Abstract

The research was carried out to determine the progress of students’ mastery of Conditional Sentences by using Student Centered Learning (SCL) Approach at the eleventh grade of SMK Tritech Indonesia Medan. The subjects of this study were consisted of 16 students. In this research the method was used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was carried out in two cycles and following procedures of action research; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The data collecting in this research was taken from interview, observation, documentation, test, and diary note. The findings showed that there was a progressing of the students’ ability in mastery conditional sentences. It showed with the mean of the pre-test (20.00), the mean of posttest I (47.50), and the mean of posttest II (75.00). The percentage of the students’ score in the pre-test who got point 75 and more there was none students (0%), The percentage of the students’ score in the post test I who got point 75 and more there was 3 students of 16 students (18.75%), The percentage of the students’ score in the post test II who got point 75 and more there was 12 of 16 students there was (75%). From the data, it indicated that using SCL approach that was effective, and the data can be concluded that the students’ grammar ability in mastering conditional sentences have been improved by using SCL approach. In addition, the students were active, more confident, involve in discussing in learning process.
