Abstract

Daily conversation is a communication that is built by someone with other people, to give or get information needed in daily life, according to Gilakjani (2016:1) “Communication between humans is a complex process.” It is means that communication can occur anywhere and anytime. At Darul Arafah Raya Boarding School, Jl. Berdikari, No. 1A, Desa Lao Bakeri, Sampe Cita, Kecamatan Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara. This study discusses about the student’s ability to speak English in daily life by using qualitative descriptive method. The aims of this study was to determine the extent to which student’s ability to speak English at Darul Arafah Raya Islamic Boarding School. The researcher found that the students at the boarding schoolis not fluent in communicating, especially communicating using English. This is due to several factors as triggers, including; lack of student interest in English, teachers who use Arabic during the teaching and learning process, students feel less confident, inadequate facilities, and no language program objectives are offered.It can be concluded that the student's English speaking skills are not quite good, the boarding school prioritize the use of Arabic rather than English, so there is a lack of desire for students to practice speaking English
