Abstract

This study examined the use of song to teach basic past tense. This research used CAR. This study aimed to teach past tense using song. SMA PAB 4 SAMPALI conducted this research. This research involved 30 students in class X IPS 2. Each cycle consisted of four steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research used quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data from test, qualitative data from observation, diaries, and documentation. Song can help students use past tense, according to research. Before executing the cycle, the researcher gave a pre-test to measure students' proficiency in simple past tense. The average score was 41, and only 5 (16.67%) students scored over the KKM (>75). In post-tets I, the average result was 62.05, and just 9 (30%) students scored above 75. Post-test II students averaged 90.39. 30 students scored higher than the KKM (75), whereas the lowest second-cycle score was 76. Pre-test, post-test cycle I, and post-test cycle II results demonstrated that students' ability to use simple past tense through song improved.
