Abstract

The research design of this research was correlation method. The aim of this study is to find out whether the correlation students’ grammar ability between their speaking ability. The number of population and sample had been taken 30 students as pattern the usage of general sampling technique. The instruments of these studies in collecting the data, the researcher used instrument multiple choice test for grammar test and oral test about short story for speaking test. The data had been analyzed the usage mean analysis and formulation person r or Product Moment correlation. The end result of this research supply that there is a positive and signification the correlation students’ grammar ability and students’ speaking ability of eight grades in SMPS Muhammadiyah 29 Padangsidimpuan in academic year 2020/2021. It may be visible from the end result of rxy is 0.567 with significance level 0.05 in the rtabel is 0.361. The computation confirmed that the rxy is higher than rtable this is 0.361<0.567>0.463. It concluded that the correlation between students’ grammar ability and students’ speaking ability at eight grade of SMPS 29 Muhammadiyah Padangsidimpuan based at the research, the hypothesis is accepted.
