Abstract

This research is motivated by the attention of researchers where students have problems in the process of learning English. The problem is that students feel ashamed and afraid of being wrong when speaking in English, students also have obstacles in speaking English because of lack of vocabulary mastery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of storytelling techniques on students' speaking skills in class XI Science at SMAS Kesuma Bangsa in the academic year 2022/2023. The approach in this study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type of research using two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. In collecting data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test. The instrument used in this study used observation and tests. Data collection techniques using techniques, tests, and documentation by collecting relevant data, as well as tests carried out pre- test and post-test. The data analysis technique used in this research is prerequisite test and hypothesis test using SPSS 26 assistance count. The results showed that there was affect in the use of storytelling techniques on students' speaking abilities as evidenced by the value of sig (2- tailed) which was smaller than the significance level (0.000 < 0.05) and the observed value was greater than the ttable value (7.070 < 1677). Based on the evidence of the above research results, it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.
