Abstract

The aims of this study to determine how the students in pronouncing word and the problems that students at SMPS Pesantren Modern Terpadu Al-Fath Singkuang. Students' difficulties in applying English pronunciation are caused by their use of an accent. The purpose of this research is to identify the issues that impede students' ability. This study was carried out at SMPS Pesantren Modern Terpadu Al-Fath Singkuang in the 2021–2022 academic year, with research subjects in grades VIII-A and VIII-B. This study employs a qualitative method of data collection that includes test pronunciation and documentation. The researcher discovered that students' difficulties pronouncing English words. The findings are most of student poor in pronoun the word that include in short vowel such as, /e/, /æ/ and /ə/, they can-not to make different pronoun of each word. The researcher conclude that this caused by some factors such as a lack of student interest in learning, less creative teachers, incorrect internet use, and a lack of interest in learning English. Based on these findings, it is possible to conclude that students have numerous difficulties pronouncing English words, which causes students to have difficulty pronouncing words. As a result, teachers and schools must play an important role in addressing student issues
