Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the Impact Of Using Regional Languages In The Process Of learning English at SMP N 04 Gunung Tuleh, Pasaman Barat Regency, West Sumatra. The author uses a qualitative descriptive method to answer the research questions. The instruments that the researchers used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants in this study were English teachers and students at SMP N 04 Gunung Tuleh. The results showed that the use of regional languages in the English learning process had a positive influence on teachers and students, where students understood or better understood English learning conveyed by the teacher using regional languages. This is due to the use of regional languages in the learning process. It has become a habit for students on the grounds that this regional language is their first language or mother tongue which they use as a tool to communicate in everyday life, and teachers are also easier to convey learning to students because they are assisted by the use of regional languages so that the process of learning English in the class can be achieved well and in accordance with the expected achievement and if the use of this regional language is used continuously in the English learning process it also has a negative impact, namely students are very minimal with vocabulary. English and this is what makes it difficult for teachers to convey English learning to students using English.
