Abstract
This study aims to determine the problems of Mandailing students in pronouncing English words. The interference of Mandailing language into English causes Mandailing students to face several problems. Thus, this study seeks to find out what problems are faced by Mandailing students. This research was conducted at MTs S Robi'ul Islam PasarLatong, with research subjects in class VIII-B in the 2021/2022 academic year. This study uses a qualitative method that collects data by observation, interviews, and documentation. With that, the researchers found that the problems of Mandailing students in pronouncing English words were interference from the Mandailing language into English, having wrong opinions and being lazy to study, less active teachers, environmental factors, inefficient study time, lack of modern technology, there are factors economics, and a lack of understanding if the importance of the English language. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Mandailing students have many problems in pronouncing English words which make students lazy more and do not like English. So this is where teachers and schools can play an important role in the problems that Mandailing students face.
