Abstract

Based on preliminary study conducted by the researcher at MAS Miftahussalam Medan, the researcher discovered that the students still have struggle in finding moral value, problem, and issue relating to previous knowledge and metacognition. This research employed a descriptive qualitative methodology. There were 29 students as sample from 49 students at tenth grade students at MAS Miftahussalam Medan who had the lowest scores in the preliminary research served as the subject of this study. Data was gathered though the analysis of test documentation and distribution of questionnaire to the students. The questionnaire was created in order to identify the factors that makes student difficult in finding moral value in narrative text. The test or the question was created to find their comprehension and difficulties in reading narrative text. The factors that cause students difficult in finding moral value were previous knowledge, metacognition, decoding processes, high level cognitive skill, and previous knowledge. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the highest difficulty in reading narrative text was identifying the moral value. The percentage of the students who not be able to find the moral value was 59.18% and the researcher found that the highest factor that makes the students difficult to find the moral value from narrative text was the problem with their mastery in vocabulary.
