Abstract

The objective of this reasearch was to determine the influence of using Give One Get One Strategy on the students achievement in writing descriptive texts. The method used is quantitative, with the type of research that is quasi- experimental research design. This research was conducted at SMAN 8 Jl. Perkebunan Pijorkoling, Padang Sidimpuan, North Sumatra. The population and sample in this study were tenth graders in the first semester at the academy in 2022/2023 with consisted 56 students as a sample. This study used two groups, namely the experimental group using the Give one Get one strategy and the control group without treatment. The research data was obtained by giving a test about writing descriptive text to the students. The research data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26 for Windows with Independent sample T- test. Based on the results of the data, it shows that there is a difference in writing ability between students who are taught by the Give One Get One strategy and those who are taught without treatment, where the results of the post-test score in the experimental class are higher by 77,18 than the score in the control class by 67,50. It is also proven by the results of the tobserved being higher by 3,953 compared to ttable at a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) 54 of 1.674 (3,953 > 1,674). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using the Give one Get one strategy on the ability to write descriptive texts of the students in class X of SMA Negeri 8 Padang Sidimpuan.
