Abstract

This research investigated how the students’ ability and students’ problem in writing analytical exposition text at second grade student of SMAN 1 Bagan Sinembah in Riau at academic year 2021/2022. In this research took one class at second grade student that consist 20 students as the subject in this study. This research used content analysis as the research design in analyzing the students written based on the components in writing. The data of this study from collecting the students’ written about analytical exposition text and for collecting the data used purposive sampling. The result of this study showed that the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition in categorized fairly sufficient, it based on the mean of the students’ score were only 55,95. The students’ problem in writing analytical exposition occurred in five components of writing: Problem in content, organization, vocabulary, grammar and mechanics. The most dominant problem that students faced in content when writing analytical exposition text, it based on the percentage and shown 23,4 %. The findings have the implication for the students, in order to improve their competence in writing, and for the teacher should give attention about the students’ ability in writing.
