Abstract

The research that has been conducted entitled “The Effect of Learning Environment on Students’ Writing Skill at Imelda Senior High School Medan”. With the background by the number of students with declining English writing skills due to many factors. One of the factors closest to students is the learning environment. Therefore, the writer wanted to test whether the effect between the two was significant. This research aims to determine the effect of the learning environment on students' writing skills in class X IPA Imelda Medan. The formulation of the problem presented is whether there is a significant effect of the Learning Environment on Students' Writing Ability. The type of research used by the writer is descriptive quantitative. The population in this research was 64 students and the sample was 39 students with the sampling method was cluster random sampling. The data collection technique in this reserach was using a questionnaire and a test. And the data analysis technique used simple linear regression with the help of SPSS and a significance level of 5%. The results showed that there was a significant effect between the learning environment and students' writing skills, based on the analysis of the results of the t-test of 3.737 and t-table of 2.206 at a significance level of 5%. So that t-count is greater than t-table (3.737>2.206). And the SPSS calculation obtained a coefficient of determination (R-square) of 27.4%. Then obtained Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, there is an effect of learning environment on students’ writing ability in class X IPA Imelda Medan.
