Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the implementation of Student Teams Achievement Divisions strategy in improving the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. In constructing this research, the writer collected data from the classroom action research (CAR), which was carried out through four steps. There were planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this data were 22 students at X Grade of MAS ‘Ibadurrahman Stabat. The result of analysis showed there was a development on the students’ ability in writing descriptive text, it is showed from the mean of pre-test was 48.22, the mean of post-test I in cycle I 67.77, and the mean of post-test II in cycle II 77.95. The percentage of students’ score in the pre-test was (9.09%), percentage of students’ score in post-test I in cycle I was (72.72%) then, the percentage of students’ score in post-test II in cycle II was (90.90%). From the data, it indicated that using Student Teams Achievement Divisions strategy in Writing Descriptive Text was effective. It can be concluded that the students’ ability in writing descriptive text have been improved by using Student Teams Achievement Divisions Strategy.
