Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the spirit and courage of Islamic economic movement conducted by the founding figures of Islamic organizations in pre-independence Indonesia, although they always get threat from the Dutch government. (2) The background of the Islamic economic movement by SDI, Muhammadiyah and NU pre-independence era of Indonesia. (3) Islamic economic movements conducted by SDI, Muhammadiyah and NU received positive responses by indigenous communities including pesantren and others (4) Obstacles experienced by SDI, Muhammadiyah and NU in the Islamic economic movement to the community. The research method used in this research using qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are conducted by interviews and research libraries by finding reference sources from books related to this research, scientific journals, other related articles and various other sources that can be a source of reference in this study. This paper can be concluded that (1) The pattern of SDI, Muhammadiyah, and NU movement has a modern, traditional-conservative economic typology. (2) There is a positive influence on the SDI movement to the Muslim community such as the rise of indigenous traders to be strong, and eliminating discriminatory treatment to indigenous traders. (3) There is a good influence on the Muhammadiyah movement to the people, both their improved economy and their better human resources, one example of the economy by establishing BMT ummah and Bank Muhammadiyah. (4) There is a positive influence for the people's economy due to the influence of Nahdlatut Tujjar and establishing cooperative Shirkah Muawwanah in pesantren. (5) by repeating the writings of the pre-independence Islamic economic movement, became the motivation for today's mass organizations in order to contribute more to the Islamic economy than the pre-independence Islamic economic movement because of the constraints of the Islamic economic movement facing today , not as difficult as facing the pre-independence Islamic economic movement.
