Abstract

Indonesia's scientific literacy is still quite far behind compared to other countries. One factor in the low level of scientific literacy in Indonesia is the textbooks that students use to study. A good textbook should fulfill and contain a balance of scientific literacy. This research aims to determine the level of scientific literacy in Biology textbooks based on aspects of scientific literacy, namely: science as a body of knowledge, science as a way to investigate, science as a way to think, science and its interaction with technology and society. This research uses a qualitative approach and content or document analysis methods. The data source in this research is the Biology textbook for Class XI SMA in Sawit Seberang District. The data analysis technique in this research uses descriptive statistical methods. The research results in both books have the highest percentage in the dimension of science as a body of knowledge with an average of 57.5% while in book II it is 56.66%, the dimension of science as a way of thinking in book I has a percentage of 35% while in book II it is 27.5%, the dimension of science as a way of investigation in book I shows a percentage of 32.5% and in book II it is 30.83% and has the lowest percentage in the dimension of science and its interaction with technology and society with a percentage of book I is 30% and in book II it is 27.5%. So it can be concluded that the level of scientific literacy in Class XI high school biology textbooks using respiratory system material in Sawit Seberang District is quite good.
