Abstract

Hygiene is a health effort by maintaining and protecting the cleanliness of the subject such as washing hands with water and soap to protect hand hygiene, washing dishes to keep dishes clean, throwing away damaged parts of food to protect food integrity as a whole. The purpose of this study was to analyze sanitation hygiene and the density of flies in the canteen of the Islamic college of Medan. This research uses descriptive survey research. The location of this research is canteens in 12 Islamic colleges in the city of Medan. The sample in this study were 22 canteens and 220 students where 10 students were interviewed in each canteen. Data analysis in this study was descriptive univariate analysis and a table of results for measuring the density of flies. The results of this study are that 22 canteens in 12 Islamic Higher Education Universities in Medan City meet the hygiene and sanitation requirements of the canteens according to RI Minister of Health No. 1098/MENKES/SK/VII/2003 in terms of location and building, sanitation facilities, kitchen, dining room and food warehouse, food ingredients and prepared food, food processing, storage of food and finished food, serving of finished food and equipment used . Measuring the number of fly density in 22 canteens in 12 Islamic Colleges of Medan City, there are 4 canteens with moderate fly density and 18 canteens with low fly density. Student perceptions related to knowledge, attitudes, and student actions regarding canteen sanitation hygiene, fly density or their reasons for choosing the canteen have good knowledge with an overall average score of 73.63%.
