Abstract

The research that has been carried out entitled “ The Role of the Teacher in Forming the Character of Manners and Responsibilities of Class IV Students at SDN 101540 Mangaledang Lama Kec. Portibi Kab. Padang Lawas Utara” is motivated by the emergence of various violations of manners and responsibilities committed by several students so that it shows lack of decency and student responsibility at school. The implementation of this research was carried out at SDN 101540 Mangaledang Lama Kec. Portibi Kab. Padang Lawas Utara. With the type of qualitative research and research data obtained through data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews and documentation. as for the subjects in the study were the fourth grade homeroom teacher, fourth grade teacher, fourth grade student and the principal of SDN 101540 Mangaledang Lama. The results of the study reveal that: 1) there is a teachers role in the formation of manners and student responsibilities, namely the teacher as a teacher, guide, motivator and model/exemplar; 2) it turns out that teachers are still experiencing problems in forming the character of courtesy and student responsibility from two factors, namely a) students and 2) family, environment and development of the times; 3) the teacher has made efforts in forming manners and responsibilities including: a) exemplary, b) the teacher provides motivation, c) giving punishment.
