Abstract
The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical evidence on the effectiveness of story mapping techniques in reading comprehension of narrative texts for eighth grade students of Budi Utomo Private Junior High School 2 in the 2022/2023 academic year and to find out how far the effectiveness of story mapping techniques on understanding students' narrative text reading. The technique used in this study is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Through this sampling technique, two classes were selected as the experimental class and the control class, each class consisting of 20 students. The data collection technique used was a test that was carried out twice, namely pre-test and post-test. The number of each question is 20 multiple choice questions. The data analysis technique used is t-test. The results of this study indicate that there are significant differences in the results of students' reading comprehension of narrative texts after using story mapping techniques. In pre-test of experimental group (using story mapping) the mean is 29,75 and the post test 69,5 meanwhile in control group (using picture matching) the mean of pre test is 29.75 and the mean of post test is 63.25. Therefore, it can be concluded that the story mapping technique is effective and has a significant effect on reading comprehension of narrative texts for eighth grade students of SMP Swasta Budi Utomo 2 for the Academic Year of 2022/2023.
