Abstract
Changes in learning patterns during this pandemic have forced students to adapt to online learning patterns (in networks) that use electronic devices such as cellphones and laptops. Not a few students have problems with online learning that require guidance and counseling teachers and the school to be involved in solving them. This research was carried out based on the background that existed at SMP PAB 2 Helvetia which showed that most students had problems during online learning which were different from face-to-face learning. The purpose of this study was to find out the efforts of the counseling teacher in overcoming student problems during online learning and to find out the role of the counseling teacher during online learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants in this study were 10 class IX students of SMP PAB 2 Helvetia who experienced problems when learning online. Data collection methods used are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the counseling teacher's efforts to overcome student problems in online learning at SMP PAB 2 Helvetia work together with subject teachers, homeroom teachers and students' parents, because counseling teachers cannot interact directly with students much. The problems students experienced included; a) the limitations of learning media such as cellphones and laptops for students whose parents have economic limitations, b) students are less active in learning because they do not meet their friends as before. Counseling teachers also run group counseling services with social distancing provisions in accordance with government regulations to be able to find out what students' problems are and get to know their group mates more closely
