Abstract

One of the English skills that need to be mastered is reading. There are some theories said that females are more better in learning language than males and it is supported by some findings of researches that females’ reading comprehension are higher than the males’, but there are also researches that said there is no significant difference between male and female in reading comprehension. Therefore this research aimed to examine whether there is any significant difference between male and female in reading comprehension in the school that the researcher chose to be examined, which is the eighth grade of MTS YAPI BKAI SEI KARANG. This research used quantitative non-experimental method which is comparative descriptive study. The participants in this research are students at Eighth grade of MTS YAPI BKAI SEI KARANG academic year 2022/2023. In collecting the data, the researcher gave a reading comprehension test to the students. To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive statistics to describe the level of each gender in reading comprehension and inferential statistics to see if there is any significant different between male and female in reading comprehension. The findings of this research are: mean score of male students is 7,09 and classified as “Fairly Good”, mean score of female students is 7,9 and classifed as “Good”, and based on the result of t-test tcount ˂ ttable, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference between male and female in reading comprehension at Eighth grade of MTS YAPI BKAI SEI KARANG.
