Abstract
The title of this research is "EFL Students’ Speaking Anxiety: The Case Study in English Class of SMP Swasta Karya Bunda Medan". The researcher took the data from SMP Karya Bunda Medan with giving questionnaire and interview. The researcher used qualitative method to analyze the data about students' speaking anxiety level and students' speaking anxiety factors that experienced by students. To find out the results of investigation used two instruments; questionnaire and interview. The population of this research was eighth grade of SMP Swasta Karya Bunda Medan. The participants of this research were 18 students. By utilizing the theories from Basavanthappa, B.T. (2007) and Rajitha & Alamelu, (2019), the investigation can be done. After analyzing the data about students' speaking anxiety, the result of data analysis showed that most of students experienced "mildly anxiety". There was 1 student (5%) who faced “very anxiety” level, there were 5 respondents (28%) who faced “anxious” level, there were 10respondents (55%) who faced “mildly anxious” level, and there were 2 respondents (11%) whofaced “relax” level. Meanwhile the factors experienced by students, there are ninefindings that has already discovered; peers, lack of pronunciation, afraid of the teacher attitude, forget vocabulary, language factor, grammar, speak in front of class, self- perception, and shyness. Most of students worry to talk in English especially to speak in front the class, the students often feel worry, shy, afraid, notconfident, and heart beats so fast when talking in front of class because afraid of staring audience and afraid of making mistakes and there were some of students feel anxious of being laughed by other students.
