Abstract

This research aimed to investigate students’ perceptions on zoom meeting application as media in speaking class at UINSU. The subject of this study were 5 students at six semester of english department UINSU. This study used qualitative method. The instrument of data collection was interviews and observation, the interviews consist of 11 questions as a reference and raise additional questions in the section that needs to be explored more deeply. The results showed that students have a negative perception on zoom meeting application as media in speaking class. Most of student perceived that using zoom for speaking class is less challenging and less effective. The use of zoom in speaking class could not give the students real social interaction and make the students to be a silent learner in speaking without having adequate feedback and special opportunity in conducting the discussion in speaking class. However student also have neutral and positive perceptions on zoom application as media in speaking class.
