Abstract

The research was intended to know the effect of paired storytelling technique on students’ reading comprehension which was researced and analyzed from students of eighth grade at MTs Azzuhri Tanjung Morawa. The method used was the Quasi-Experimental research design. The population of this study was eighth-grade students of MTs Azzuhri Tanjung Morawa. The sample of this research were the population of eighth grade, there were two classes and divided them as experimental and control. There were 26 students in the experiment and 26 students in control. The researcher was taught by using paired storytelling technique in the experimental class and taught by using the conventional method (lecturing method) in the control class. The researcher used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The experimental class increased 36.16 points, from 45.38 to 81.54 while the control class increased 30.00 points from 51.35 to 81.35 points. It’s calculated by used SPSS 22 and using a t-table with 5% (0.05) significance level. In post-test of experiment and control class, the researcher found that the value of Sig. in T-Test (2tailed) was 0.03. It was lower than 0.05 (0.03 < 0.05), it means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So there was significant difference between the experiment class and control class. In other words, the student's achievement in reading comprehension is effective by using paired storytelling technique than the conventional strategy.
