Abstract
Comic strips are one of the tools or communicative learning media that must be made as attractive as possible to arouse student interest and motivation. when compared to traditional media such as reading texts which theoretically are less attractive to students in learning foreign languages. Thus it can be said that learning English using comic strips will be more effective and proven to be able to improve English mastery and students will know some of the words given. The purpose of this study using comic strips was to find out whether using comic strips could improve students' vocabulary mastery at X-IIS 2 MAN Simalungun. By using Classroom Action Research (CAR) the authors found that the average student scores were 33.33 for the pre-test, 61.66 for the post-test cycle 1, and 86.33 for the post-test cycle 2. These results clearly show that students' mastery continues to increase from the pre-test cycle to post-test 2. Therefore, comics are one of the best media to improve vocabulary mastery by creating a fun learning process and making learning English more interesting and easy to increase students' motivation. to continue learning English. So, this research can be said that the use of comic strips can improve students' vocabulary mastery.
