Abstract

This study aims to describe the cognitive process of students in reading English text in students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Medan and to describe that these students experience, are realized and understand the cognitive processes that exist in English texts. This study takes the theory from Bloom’s Taxonomy that each cognitive level varies in each individual. This type of research uses qualitative methods. This study used observation, and interview methods. There are three stages in analyzing this research namely, data condensation, data display and conclusions of data. The result of this study is there are six findings from the research. The six findings are comprehending the title, reading the text, understanding the text, translating the text, writing the main point and concluding the text. All of the students who were used as informants realized that there were cognitive processes in reading English texts when they usually reading the text.
