Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the types of lexical errors found in students' writing, particularly in procedure texts. In addition to understanding the causes of errors in student writing. This study utilized qualitative methods, and the researcher chose the qualitative descriptive research design to present the findings of the research data. The participants in this study were 43 students from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Medan in the tenth grade. The data was collected through a test and an interview to learn more about the procedure text. The researcher used Llach's theory to collect some important information about lexical errors from students. The result of this study were 172 lexical errors made by the students, with calque 47,7%, misspelling 38,95 %, misselection 5,81%, semantic confusion 4,06%, borrowing 2,32%, coinage 1,16%. The most dominant error in students’ writing had been calculated. It was calque with 47,7% or 82 errors.
