Abstract

This research aimed to determine students' perception of Grammarly application in writing skills. The subject of this research was sixth-semester students of English Education Department of UIN-SU Medan in 2022 academic year. This research of this study was conducted using qualitative research. The participants' technique using on the criteria set by the researcher. Data collection techniques with observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher gave ten questions in an interview session to students that still relate to students' perceptions of Grammarly application in writing skills. This result showed that most students have positive perceptions of Grammarly application in their writing. They strongly agree that Grammarly application helps to check their grammatical errors. There were strengths and weaknesses of Grammarly application. The strengths were easy to access, helpful feedback, a high rate of evaluation speed, and plagiarism detection. The weaknesses were misleading feedback, over- checking on references, pricey for the premium version, and making students lazy. Based on the findings of the research, Grammarly application is highly recommended for students confused with grammatical errors in writing.
