Abstract
The occurrence of Mandailing cultures such as Tortor and Gordang Sambilan in Malaysia reveals the Mandailing diaspora in Malaysia. The existence of the cultural art of Tortor and Gordang Sambilan arose because of the Mandailing community's interest as Mandailing diaspora in Malaysia to preserve its culture. In history and customs, Mandailing communities everywhere are included in Malaysia, are required to always maintain their customs, never give up and not sell their identity. In the course of Indonesia-Malaysia relations, Tortor and Gordang Sambilan once made tensions between the two countries. Malaysia is considered to claim Mandailing culture, which is one of the native ethnic of North Sumatra, Indonesia. The issue is the main concern of mass media in Indonesia. The mass media (news text) basically seeks to reconstruct an event, event or reality to be presented to audiences. The process of constructing it does not occur in a vacuum but is laden with various interest factors. It must be realized, Mandailing Diaspora in Malaysia are very strategic. They are enabled to play an important role in reconstructing or strengthening Indonesia's relations with Malaysia in the future. Diaspora Mandailing, with its transnational ethnic network forming relationships with ethnic Mandailing peoples living in various countries, can play a transnational non-state political actor influencing the dynamics of its native country, Indonesia.
