Abstract
Research has been carried out which aims (i) to determine the effect of mixing rubber seed shell ash on the characteristics of the bricks, and (ii) to determine the composition of mixing rubber seed shell ash, cement, and sand in order to produce bricks with the most optimal characteristics. Making bricks using the basic ingredients of rubber seed shell ash, cement, sand, and water. The sand used is commercial sand. Rubber seed shell ash was obtained through a manual combustion process at 100°C for 3 hours. Variations in the composition of the brick mixture are: rubber seed shell ash, cement, and sand, namely A: 0%:30%:70%, B:5% 25%:70%, C:10%:20%:70%, D:15%:15%:70% with a FAS of 0.5. Drying time for 28 days. In this study, the tests included: physical testing (density and water absorption) and mechanical testing (compressive strength and flexural strength). The addition of rubber seed shell ash has an effect n the characteristics of the brick. With the addition of rubber seed shell ash at variations 0%-15% causes the value of water absorption to increase, while the compressive strength and flexural strength decrease.The bricks with the most optimum characteristics in the composition of rubber seed shell ash, cement, and sand of 5%:25%:70% (sample B), for the overall test of water absorption and compressive strength have met the standards of SNI 03-0349-1989, and the overall test flexural strength has met the standard of SNI 4431:2011
