Abstract

A research has been conducted which aims to determine the effect of bagasse ash on the characteristics of the block, and to find out the most optimal mixing composition of bagasse ash, cement, and sand in the manufacture of concrete blocks and to know the application of the resulting block. The percentage variation of bagasse ash, cement, and sand is 0%: 30%: 70%, 5%: 25%: 70%, 10%: 20%: 70%, 15%: 15%: 70%, 20%: 10%: 70% and used FAS (Cement Water Factor) of 0.5 for all variations. In this study, the characteristics of the block studied include: density, water absorption, compressive strength, and fracture strength. The addition of bagasse ash as a substitute for cement significantly affected the characteristics of the concrete block. With the addition of bagasse ash in a mixture of 5-20% causes the value of the brick density to decrease, compressive strength decreases, and water absorption capacity increases. While the strength of the fracture has increased in the mixture variation of 5-10% and has decreased in the mixture variation of 15-20%. The most optimal composition of mixing bagasse ash, cement, and sand is at 5% mixture variation for water absorption, compressive strength testing and fracture strength testing because it meets SNI 03-0348-1989 standards. Whereas the other mixed variations are not optimal. The application of the bricks produced with a variation of a mixture of 5% bagasse ash can be used as a house wall. Because the compressive strength produced meets SNI 03-0349-1989.
