Abstract

The problem is how the wedding ceremony in North Padang Lawas and how to accomodate Islamic law to North Padang Lawas traditional law about marriage ceremonies. This study aims to determine to know wedding ceremony in North Padang Lawas and to determine the accommodation of Islamic law to the traditional law of North Padang Lawas in marriage ceremonies This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis method. Research data obtained through interviews, observation and documentation studies. The data is analyzed by steps, organizing the data, reading carefully the notes from the field then reading the literature relating to the problem and background of the research. Based on findings in the field and discussion on accommodation of Islamic law to the customary law of Padang Lawas Utara about marriage. In general the traditional marriage ceremony of the people of North Padang Lawas can be accommodated by Islamic law except a small portion is still found that is not in line with Islamic law, that is, the quantity of boli exceeds the capacity of the young men parents which results in the failure of marriage, ask for the women, speaking of the women, sprinkling rice nuts yellow to the head of young men and women, flying the traditional flag, using musical instruments in the form of drums and flutes. In general, the traditional law of North Padang Lawas marriage ceremony has eskadistik acculturation.
