Abstract
This research was aimed to find out improving of the students’ speaking skill through group investigation technique. The subject of this research were the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Hinai which consisted of 29 students. This research applied classroom action research. The data of this research were qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were taken from observation sheet, diary notes and interview. The quantitative data were taken from tests, that were carried out in the end of every cycle. The tests were given to the students in form of pre-test, post test 1 in the first cycle and the post test 2 in the second cycle. The result of the data analysis showed that the score of students increased from the first post-test I to post-test II. It were showed from the mean of orientation test was 60.2, there was 14% (4 students) who got point 75 or more. In the post test of cycle I, the mean was 68.8, it was higher than orientation test. There was 35%(10 students) who got point 75 or more. In the post test II, the mean was 77.4 and the percentage of students who got point 75 or more was 83% (24 students). It indicated that the use of group investigation technique can improve the students’ speaking skill.
