Abstract

The aim of this research is to shows the analysis of students difficulties in translating argumentative text from English to Indonesian which was observed and analyzed from students at second graders of MAN Tebing tinggi Academic Year 2018/2019. The research methodology that used is qualitative descriptive method, which describes the natural state in depth and detail about the difficulties in translating English into Indonesian. The population of this study was the students at second grade of MAN Tebing tinggi Academic Year 2018/2019. The object of this research are te accuracy, acceptability and readability. To find out and describes the difficulties of students, the researcher used reading, analysing, writing and conluding the score of the students translation product. The instrument of this research is the argumentative text, as a key instrument using the help sheet questions and answers and the table of translation quality assessment. This research result shows that 68,57% or 24 of 35 students was difficult in understanding the meaning of the source language so it makes it difficult for them to translate it into the target language as the difficulties in linguistic factor, this case was caused by the lack of the vocabulary and the knowledge and understanding about translation was still less. And 62,85% or 22 of 35 students was difficult in translating words related to cultural values as the difficulties in non-linguistic factor. It can be concluded that students difficulties in linguistic factor was more prominent than the non linguistic factor.
