Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the improving of the students’ vocabulary mastery through word square method. The subject of this research was seven grade of MTsN Sibuhuan in 2016/2017 Academic Year. It was consisted of one class and 46 students as respondents. The object of this research was to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through word square method. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The technique of analyzing the data of this research was applied by qualitative and quantitative data. The result of the analyzing the data showed that there was an improving on the students’ vocabulary mastery from each cycles. It was showed from the mean of pre-test was 47. Where, there were 6 students got successful score criteria or it was only 13,04% and 40 students got unsuccessful or it was 86,95%. After doing cycle I by using Word Square Method, there was an improving of the result of the students’ mean was 69.52. Where, 26 students got successful criteria score or it was only 56, 52% and 20 students got unsuccessful criteria score or it was 43.47%. Then, doing repairing for second cycle after reflection on the first cycle, there was improving of students’ mean was 78.06. Where, 41 students’ got successful criteria score or it was 89, 13 %. In other words, the students’ vocabulary mastery was improved.
